- Waimea Plantation Cottages offers classic plantation-style cottages, on the West Side of Kaua’i. Cottages range from one to three bedrooms and vary amongst three tiers: garden-view, ocean-view, and oceanfront. A one bedroom garden-view cottage starts at $259 per night although there are kama’aina rates as well as specials available every now and then.
- Why stay at Waimea Plantation Cottages? If you’re looking for a place to stay that gives you nearly every excuse not to leave the property, then this is the place for you. If you’re searching for a spot to stay that effortlessly transports you back in time, to a Hawai’i from long ago, then this is the place for you. If you’re interested in spending your days (and nights) somewhere that’s full of local history, then look no further than Waimea Plantation Cottages.
- What is the parking situation like? There is ample parking all over the property, including right next to each cottage.
- What is the indoor space like? The fun thing about Waimea Plantation Cottages is that every cottage is unique, but all have been designed and maintained to preserve the same vintage Hawaiiana charm. We stayed in the oceanfront 2BR/2BA Cottage C and adored every simple detail from the french doors to the wood floors. Of course the keiki snagged the room with the ocean view–they loved taking turns lounging and napping on the cozy window bench.
- What is the outdoor space like? The outdoor space surrounding our cottage was nothing short of divine. First thing’s first, we had a front and a back lanai. The latter featured a pair of rocking chairs and a pair of adirondack chairs, all facing the ocean! This back lanai also opened up to a large grassy area complete with incredible views of all sorts of amazing trees and the beautiful Pacific. I’d say it was no more than a two minute walk from our back door to the sand–although it’s important to note that this is considered to be more of a strolling beach than a swimming one.
- Tell me about the amenities. We found plenty to do while exploring this postcard-perfect property. Our number one stop was obviously the pool–it was the perfect depth (no more than four feet) for our keiki and there was even a small baby pool for toddlers/babies. Other favorite points of interest were the hammocks scattered throughout the lawns, the outdoor shuffleboard court, and the banyan trees. Da Pizza Place was an added bonus as we made sunset pizza a nightly thing. Lastly, standard amenities include: full kitchen stocked with the basics, access to BBQ, ceiling fans and air conditioning, television with cable, shampoo/conditioner/body wash, wifi and access to shared laundry facilities.
- What’s within a 15-minute walk? Waimea Town and Waimea Pier.
- What’s within a 15-20 minute drive? Waimea Canyon, Koke’e State Park, the entrance to Polihale, and Hanapepe where you’ll find our favorite bakery Midnight Bear Breads.
- Insider advice: It’s important to remember that Waimea offers two small grocery stores and a handful of small eateries with limited hours. Be sure to stock up on groceries in Lihue before heading West.
- Fun fact: The upgrade to an ocean-view or an oceanfront cottage is well worth it here, especially considering the resort’s secluded location!
