Where to Stay on Kauai: The Hibiscus House

The Hibiscus House is a centrally located 3BR/2BA house in Princeville, on the North Shore of Kaua’i. This bright and spacious home averages $495 per night and can accommodate up to six people.

Why stay at The Hibiscus House? First and foremost, this is the most organized rental we have ever stayed in. It’s true, the owners have thought of every detail one could have a question about during their stay and prepared for it. The neighborhood is quiet and close to all of our North Shore essentials–beaches, hikes, and eateries. Last but not least, the screened lanai was a hit for every member of our family and I still dream about all the amazing meals we shared together on it.

What is the parking situation like? The house has a private driveway that fits one large SUV or two smaller vehicles.

What is the indoor layout like? Upon walking through the front door you are greeted with the living room, complete with a variety of fun seating options. The open floor plan then leads into the kitchen and screened lanai (with a nice big dining table). Through the kitchen and up the stairs is the master suite. While back on the first floor the hallway leads to the second bathroom and two bedrooms. Each bedroom has a queen-sized bed, one room has desk while the other opens up to a sitting lanai.

What is the outdoor space like? There’s a grassy yard that wraps around from front to back via both sides of the house. Better yet, the backyard features a sweet treehouse perfect for hidden picnics surrounded by birdsong. This was the most magical surprise for the keiki!

Tell me about the amenities. Standard amenities include: full kitchen stocked with the basics, dishwasher, charcoal BBQ, air conditioning, washer/dryer, cable tv, wifi, beach supplies (towels, cooler bag, chairs, toys, etc.). There’s also a small but quality selection of indoor keiki toys, ours loved the puzzles and the wooden stacking rocks. Finally, there’s a pair of beach cruisers available for use!

What’s within a 20-30 minute walk? A few different neighborhood beaches, Princeville Center, the park, and the library. You could even walk to the new 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay in just over 30 minutes–I highly recommend sunset drinks at Welina Terrace.

What’s within a 10-minute drive? Both Kilauea and Hanalei Bay are within a 10-minute drive–same with the Okolehao Trail and Anini Beach. Check out our top North Shore eateries here! The Hibiscus House really does make an excellent home base to make all of your North Shore dreams come true, we only wish we could’ve stayed longer because we honestly felt right at home there.

Insider Advice: The Foodland grocery store in Princeville is one of the most expensive supermarkets in the state. Try to stock up in Lihue or Kapaa before heading up, and of course aim to purchase your produce from the local farmers! The closest farmer’s market is just down the street by the Princeville Community Center on Saturday mornings. Bonus–be sure to sign up for fresh bagel delivery a la Swell Bakehouse!

Fun Fact: Waves Yoga is an incredible yoga studio located walking distance from the Hibiscus House. And on every first Sunday, you’ll find the Princeville Artist & Flea Market (also by the Princeville Community Center)–this pop-up market is home to some of our favorite local vendors!
