Toilet Learning Basics: Stage One

When your child starts showing interest in the potty then it's time to set up an area for them in the bathroom with a few necessities.

1. Baby Bjorn potty. We love the small size of this one. Perfect for little bums.

2. A low stool for adult to sit on or babe to hang onto. Their favorite potty book, see ours below!

3. A basket of diapers and wipes because you'll start off just changing them in this area until they're ready to sit on the potty.

4. As they're able to, start the transition by changing their diaper standing up.

5. Try to involve them in every step of the process. I have Ru wipe herself then throw away her diaper/wipe.

Here in stage one we are just getting her comfortable in the bathroom area, taking care of her toileting needs step by step. Every time we are in there we ask her if she'd like to sit on the potty. One day she will say yes & we'll move to stage 2.
