Hike to Hanakapi'ai  Beach & Falls

about

The hike to Hanakapi'ai refers to the first major stream crossing on the famous Kalalau Trail.

length

The hike to Hanakapi'ai Beach is two miles in from the lifeguard station at Ke'e Beach, while the falls is another two miles beyond this.

Hanakapi'ai Beach

During summer this beach offers plenty of opportunities to play in  both caves and pools.

Hanakapi'ai Beach

When the conditions are right (and with enough provisions), you could easily spend the entire day here. *Just be sure to pack out whatever you brought in.

Hanakapi'ai falls

Shortly after crossing the stream, you'll wander into a magical bamboo forest.

Hanakapi'ai falls

You'll cross the stream a few more times before the falls. We like to take time to splash and slide around in the pools.

Hanakapi'ai falls

Standing, sitting, and swimming beneath this 300 foot waterfall is absolutely worth the four mile hike.

duration

With keiki, it takes us about 1 hour and 15 minutes to get to the beach and 3 hours to get to the falls.

This hike (either option) is one of our top three favorite hikes to do in the entire world!
