Top Travel Tips for 2024

New year, new travels. We’re just wrapping up the first week of January and we have four personal trips in the works so far–one inter-island, one domestic (our typical summer flow), and two international. Here I’m sharing my top five travel tips for 2024.

1. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. If you’re not subscribed to Going then you’re missing out on countless flight deals. We’ve found cheap flights to destinations around the world, including $200 roundtrip tickets between Hawai’i and the West Coast and $500 roundtrip tickets between Hawai’i and Europe. At the very least sign up for their “Limited” membership which is free but I highly recommend going for their “Premium” level because you’ll get frequent deals customized to up to five “home” airports (including Hawaii and Alaska). Their Premium membership is currently on sale for only $24 for the entire year, and you can get this deal through the end of January right here.

2. Use a travel advisor to book all of your accommodations for you and to help you tackle the overwhelming task of planning an epic trip. Hint: their services are often FREE so what are you waiting for? If you are interested in slow travel–in truly experiencing your destination(s) with intention–then we’d absolutely love to plan you next vacation. Whether you’re doing some solo travel, a girls’ trip, a couple’s getaway, or a family adventure, we can help shape your itinerary then book the best accommodations for you (think comfortable, design-forward, and located to suit your priorities). Check out our roadmap of a travel booking with These Wild Days here and let’s get you on your way!

3. Living here on Kaua’i, I’m a one-season casual wardrobe type of girl. This often poses a challenge when traveling to big cities, international destinations, and/or cold climates. A friend of mine suggested Nuuly and it’s been a lifesaver! I love that there’s zero commitment, I can pause my membership whenever I want so I honestly only use it for travel and special occasions. Better yet, I get to try out a variety of brands at different price points and I can choose to purchase an item at a deep discount if I really love it. Get $20 off your first Nuuly here!

4. There are some travel essentials that help our trips run smoother and I’ve compiled most of them (or some iteration of them) in the lists below. As you know, we prefer to travel with only carry-ons and these minimal lists reflect this very sentiment. See the Travel Essentials for adults here and keiki here.

5. Three words: Mobile Passport Control. This relatively new program is 100% free and a complete game changer when returning from international travel (U.S. citizens only). You do not need TSA Precheck or Global Entry to use this service and the other month on our way home from France it allowed us to bypass the regular immigration line of 200+ people. You download the app, then prior to your return home to the United States you take less than two minutes to enter all of your travel details. Check to see if your return airport is one of the 48 Mobile Passport Control sites here.
