California Family Getaway with Cypress Overland

This was our very first time overlanding and I honestly can’t imagine camping any other way from here on out. It was a quick three-day, two-night adventure that left us yearning for more, lots more. Cypress Overland facilitated a seamless experience that made camping with a toddler incredibly easy! Below I list our top three favorite discoveries about the magic of overlanding to inspire you to go ahead and start planning your first (or next) adventure on the road.

1. Overlanding takes camping to the next level of comfort. I was pleasantly surprised at how luxurious overlanding felt compared to old-fashioned camping. Cypress Overland provided us with high quality gear for lounging, eating, and sleeping. Our vehicle included a Frontrunner folding table and chairs. We also received a Yeti cooler and a kitchen box stocked with essential cooking and dining supplies, as well as staples such as olive oil and tea. Yes, they even threw in a dual-burner stove to whip up some fabulous meals with! Truth be told, Cypress Overland provided all the amenities you would need or want in the wilderness including headlamps, body wipes, toilet paper, first aid kit, hatchet, saw, shovel, matches, and more. They thought of everything so you wouldn’t have to think about anything except for your personal clothes and gear. I’d compare overlanding to vacationing in a portable condo with endlessly epic outdoor space!

2. Overlanding is convenient, especially with children. Quite clearly our favorite feature of the vehicle was the rooftop tent from Go Fast Campers. First of all, these are true to their name–we could set up camp in 30 seconds or less. I used to dread long drives with a baby in the backseat but the Go Fast camper turned every pit stop (of which there were many) into a magical experience. Any time Melibea needed a stretch break we’d look for the next vista point, then park and pop up the camper for our very own private cabana with a view if you will. Not to mention how comfortable it was up there and how well you could vent it, making it a great option for naptime. Our experience with Cypress Overland helped me reframe how I feel about a long road trip with children–bring it on!

3. Overlanding is a budget-friendly way to experience the great outdoors. Cypress Overland rents their fully equipped vehicles for $130-$160 per night. This is an amazing deal considering you’re getting transportation and shelter, plus you’re equipped to prepare your own meals. We would do it again but with all three of our kids by just tossing in a hammock or two. In fact, we are encouraging the boys to help create our next itinerary because they were so bummed to have missed out on this latest adventure. It’s nice to know that we’d only have to worry about taking care of groceries and gas after booking an overlanding vehicle. The great outdoors will take care of the rest.
